Soggy Bottoms Hunting Club

The Soggy Bottoms Hunting Club(SBHC) leases a 5208 acre section of property from Deltic Timber Corporation.  SBHC is one of 19 clubs comprising Deltic’s “Ouachita Reserve” Quality Deer Management area which totals 54,400 contiguous acres in Perry and Yell counties.  The entire QDM area SBHC is a part of is approximately 30 miles long and 3 miles wide, so our neighbors are managing deer with the same goals we are.  The goal for this QDM area is to significantly enhance the wildlife populations naturally occurring there by using biologically sound management techniques.  Through our QDM efforts, we strive to maintain a healthy deer population in balance not only with its habitat, but also in balance with its buck-to-doe ratio and its age structure.  The results speak for themselves, as the last 5 years in a row the SBHC buck harvest has been comprised of at least 50% 3.5+ year old bucks.  This “in balance” well managed deer herd doesn’t over-browse our habitat and helps to contribute to a good turkey population.  SBHC members also have opportunities to see and/or harvest a black bear.  We’re proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish and consider ourselves to be a premier club in the association.

Congratulations to SBHC members; David Snowden Sr. & Jr. for being inducted into the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Outdoor Hall of Fame for their achievements in outdoor fields and to protect wildlife habitat.
